Abel, look out!!

This is an ink test for a proposal I was working on with my pal Cullen Bunn a year or so ago. I think I penciled 7 or 8 pages grand total. I'll try to scrounge around a bit in my office and if I can find 'em I'll try to get a few up here. If so, I'll tell ya all about it!

THE EXTERMINATORS #8

Written by Simon Oliver; Art by Chris Samnee; Cover by Philip Bond A special stand-alone issue with guest art by rising star Chris Samnee (Queen and Country) presents Henry with a problem that could turn out more tragic than any pitched battle with bugs: the dreaded "two girlfriends" conundrum — proving that the only force more potent than nature is the human heart.

Mr Green jeans

Hey kids! Sorry for the gap between posts, I've been pretty busy of late. Anyway, here's a brush sketch of an ugly looking Hulk. I've been trying to be a little more gutsy with my inking lately so for a lot of sketches(including this one) I just go straight to inking without any kind of pencil drawing to get me started. Just a little exercise, hope it pays off.

This looks like a job for...

Superman has to be THE hardest hero to draw! Yeah yeah Spidey's got the webs and all but trying to pin down how I want to draw the big blue boyscout is a nearly impossible chore. So many great artists ,with varying styles, have done it so perfectly already ( Curt Swan, Gil Kane, John Byrne, Steve Rude, etc, etc) I can't seem to figure out what works with MY style.

For this drawing I tried to get a little bit of the shiny costume Lee Bermejo did so well in Lex Luthor Man of Steel, the raised shield from Superman Returns, with a little bit of the classic squint of the Fleischer cartoons.

Buncha Ugly Mugs

Nothin' fancy today, just a bunch of mugs I drew the other night to wind down after a long day at the drawing board. These were all done without any thought put into them really... just let my hand do whatever it wanted. That sounds crazy doesn't it? Oh well.

Q&C designs

Here are some pages out of one of my Queen & Country sketchbooks (I think I'm up to three or four now, all jam packed with doodles and reference photos). Since I get such a kick out of designing the character's outfits I usually spend half a day or so ,before I jump into a new issue, doing sketches of all the main cast like the ones above to refer back to while I'm doing sequential pages.
