Another Q&C commission-pencils

American Splendor...and a signing! (with tons of links)

Here's the first batch of sketches of Harvey, Joyce and Danielle I did before I started any work on American Splendor #2. This'll be the last shameless plug for this one...well, until the trade comes out that is:)
Anyway, if you're in the St Louis area on Oct. 4 (that's the day it hits stands by the way) I'll be doing a signing at Star Clipper from 3-6pm. So be sure to stop on by and pick up Splendor or some other stuff I've worked on like Queen & Country or Capote in Kansas so I'm not just sitting there by myself checking out the other great stuff that hits stands that day like the first issues of Criminal and Doctor Strange.
It's a real honor to be signing at Star Clipper since it's the shop (even though it was at a different location at the time) where I first got the chance to meet some real live comic creators back when I was just a young pup. Great folks like Larry Marder, Steve Bissette, Colleen Doran, Don Simpson, and Dave Sim who was gracious enough to look at my portfolio out on the sidewalk of the store while he took a smoke break. It's probably one the my best memories of my childhood, and just one more event that helped to cement the notion that I just HAD to be a comic artist one day.
So be sure to swing by, and while I can't promise any dream confirming memories, I can at least send you home with a sketch or a signed comic under your arm. And if you check out my blog be sure to let me know. See ya there!

Buncha Faces

Here's a sloppy ink drawing of some faces on old rough sketchbook paper. Just winding down after a day at the board and trying to finish off the ink I already had out.

100th POST!!!!!

Holy Crap! When I started this silly blog I figured I'd get burned out after a few weeks of posts, close out my account, and just go back to having a rarely updated little website. But somehow I've managed keep up with this blasted thing and make it up to 100 posts. Here's hoping you'll keep checking back, while I do my best to post the next hundred and so on.

Leftovers

Here's a couple of panels I've had scanned in for a while, but never got around to posting, from Q&C #31(which hits stands Wednesday October 18, kids!!). And since Brian asked to see the Man from U.N.C.L.E. poster I used as inspiration for the commission I posted a few days back... I Googled around to find it again but all I could dig up this time was the photo the poster was based on. Not quite the same thing, but at least you can see the cool poses I used as a starting point.

Q&C marker rough

Okay, so this is my oversized "thumbnail" sketch for the commission from last weekend. Tara and Tom's poses are actually based on one of the Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie posters from back in the day. If you swing back by tomorrow I'll have the penciled version posted. See ya then!

Some More Q&C Commission Sketches

I think the title says it all....the bottom one is actually one I could never get the composition right on until I added ol' Tom Wallace. None of these made it to the final cut though. I'll post that tomorrow. Cheers!

Here's the finished commission...it's all brush except for some of the tiny lines in the London skyline. I feel like I should say something else here...yeah the original is 11x17 and uhhh...yeah there ya go. Thanks.
