Phantom Stranger

I almost dressed up as the Phantom Stranger one year for Halloween when I was a kid, because I got a really cool hand-me-down suit, but I couldn't convince my mom to waste her time making the cape. Instead I spent a couple bucks on an old yellow fedora, borrowed one of my Grandpa's red ties and went as Dick Tracy. Probably the better costume in the long run since I could never really figure out if the Stranger wore a mask or not:)

This was actually a fun way to spend twenty minutes or so just doodling this morning to warm up. If anybody has any requests maybe I can do these quick little sketches more often ,and I won't have to subject everybody to scans of old stuff all the time.

Have a nice weekend, folks!

Who is it?

Here's a drawing from around midnight last night. When I started drawing, it was just going to be something fun to wind down that turned in to "hey I'll make him bald", which being the nerd I am thought "maybe it'll be Lex Luthor or Professor X" and in my sleepy haze I never actually picked one or the other. It's a little too creepy to be the Prof but a little too frail to be Luthor. I guess in the long run it's just some dude with a bit of color I kind of liked.

HB's B-Day

Here's another drawing for the San Diego Comicon Souvenir book. This is the one that actually saw print back in '04. To see the one that didn't you can click here. (I sent two so that I'd have a better chance of makin' it into the book. Ain't I clever;))

And if you're wondering why the likes of Zot, Cerebus, Concrete, Batman, Nexus and the Spirit are at Hellboy's birthday, it was just an excuse to draw some more of my favorite characters.
In silhouette in the back are even more if you look hard enough.

Moldy Oldies

Here are a couple of "gems" I ran across while digging through my files the other day. The Green Lantern up top was drawn in 2001 while the punk at the bottom I did waaaayyyy back in 1999. Man, I think I drew more lines per inch than I do on an entire page nowadays. It's always nice to run across this stuff though, if nothing else to reaffirm that I have gotten better and I'm not completely stuck in a rut;)

Titans, Together!!!

Okay, I've posted drawings for the San Diego Comic Con souvenir book before, here and here, but this is the one I did back in '05. As soon as I have the time I'll work up something for this year's book and stick it up here for you fine folks.

Couple o' Sketches

Crocker was on the back of a note card I sent along with a commission and Daredevil was a con sketch from the MO-KAN Comics Conspiracy show last year. Special thanks to Malvin and Justin for taking the time to scan these.

Revere: Inks

As promised, here's the inks for that Revere pinup. I was planning on just inking it really quickly with my Pentel Color Brush but it just wasn't drying fast enough (read, I drug my hand through it a couple of times) so the majority of it was done with a Winsor & Newton Series 7 #3.

Drawing horses is hard.

Here's the pencils to a pinup I did for the hardcover trade collection of Ed Lavallee and Grant Bond's Revere out in stores this July from ASP.
I'll post the inks tomorrow. Until then, thanks for lookin'!

Figure Drawings

Okay, I finally got out of the house and away from my drawing board...to draw somewhere else. I'd recently begun to feel that my figure drawing had started to become a bit stale, so going to a class to draw from a live model was really helpful, and a nice change of pace from drawing comics all day.
Oh, and my pal, and funny book rock star, Brian Hurtt posted some of his sketches from this session at his blog here.
