LOIS LANE

This sketch of Superman's gal, Lois Lane was inspired not just by her skill at reporting the news, the eclectic company she keeps, or the fact that she looks tops in a pencil skirt... although any of those would be a valid inspiration to warrant committing her likeness to paper.

No, this sketch of Ms. Lane is all thanks to the hilarious, oft times foul-mouthed (cut her some slack, she was an Army brat and she works at a newspaper) 140 character-or-less updates that we get from her Twitter feed every day.

If you're on Twitter @planet_lois is a must follow.

Okay, that's it from me. Have a great weekend, kids. I'll see you all back here on Monday!!

ROCKETEER (pencils)

Above are the pencils to my latest sketch that can be seen in glorious Technicolor over on the Comic Twart blog.
This entire week we're featuring sketches of Dave Stevens's Rocketeer! So head on over there now if you know what's good for ya!

THE LIZARD

News of the reboot of the Spider-Man movie franchise I'm sure has made it to you by now...
The Raimi movies were brilliant, and I love all of 'em to pieces, but I guess it was just time to start moving in a different direction.
I'm totally fine with re-casting and starting with a new mythology, I've been watching Batman and Bond movies all my life after all, but there is one thing that still kind of stings.
After seeing Dylan Baker brilliantly bring Doctor Curt Conners to life across three movies, we'll never get the chance to see him play The Lizard.
Sigh.

Okay, you can go back to checking out the Apple news now.

LOKI

I said a few days back that I'd make an attempt to do less sketches with rocks and foliage... but apparently I was totally lying.
Loki, the god of mischief, made me do it.

HUMAN TORCH & THE THING

C'mon, Ben, you should've known better than to think that the Yancy Street Gang would send you a pie in a box!! I guess you'll never learn.

MIGHTY Big Thanks

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone out there who supported The Mighty. I had a really great time during my tenure on the book couldn't have hoped for a better group of guys to work with.

Oh, and don't forget to pre-order the second trade the next time you head out to the comic shop, okay?
Have a great weekend, kids. See you all back here on Monday.

JIMMY OLSEN

If you leave my blog with nothing else this week, I want you to remember...
JIMMY OLSEN IS A BADASS!!
WHOOOOSSSH!!

In case it's unclear, or if you haven't read any of the great old Jimmy stories from back in the day, he used to carry around a pen (the fountain pen gun) that shot out a burst of compressed air so powerful that it could knock a man unconscious with the push of a button.

See? Jimmy didn't call Superman for every little thing! He could take care of himself in a scrap. He just uses that signal watch when someone's life is in danger... or if he needs help teaching some frat boys a lesson or something.

Since I managed to stop myself from jumping into inks for long enough to make a scan before jumping on to the inks, here are the pencils

SUPERBOY

Aw. Getting rid of that bomb is really nice. What a super boy! :)

ZORRO (pencils)

Above are the pencils to my finished Zorro sketch that can be found over on the Comic Twart blog. The contrast has been turned up quite a bit here, for the sake of clarity, since I tend to pencil so lightly.
"Twart" as in ART made by a group of folks that are on Twitter. Twitter+art=Twart. Get it?
Anyway, each week one of the artists will pick a subject and all of the crazy talented gentlemen will do their own take on said character. There are already some great pieces up on the blog. Go have a look!

HAVOK

Have a great weekend, kids. Should be some new fun stuff to talk about here on Monday.

See? I bet you never thought you'd be anxious for the weekend to be over, eh?

You're welcome.

Oh, and the above sketch is of Havok by the way:D

RONIN

After having such a fun time doing psuedo cross-overs with Declan Shalvey, Evan "Doc" Shaner, Mitch Breitweiser, Mitch Gerads and Tom Fowler through Twitter/Deviant Art/our blogs this week, with sketches of Thor, I put the call out to these fine gentlemen through Twitter to see what we should all draw for today.
Your friend and mine, and 28 Days Later artist, Declan suggested we all take a crack at Ronin.

THE DEMON

I wonder why The Demon doesn't speak in rhyme anymore?
Maybe his writers found it to be a chore.
I suppose the readers could've told DC that it was a bore.
I for one crave more :D

Also, I've linked to these on my Twitter feed already but in case you missed 'em, or aren't on Twitter, here a few recent links of note:D
Brian Reed's Siege: Embedded interview for Marvel.com (w/ B&W preview pages from issue #2)

THOR

In honor of principal photography starting on the Thor movie yesterday, and the fact that there's a little thing called SIEGE going on, I figured I'd take another stab at drawing everyone's favorite Asgardian, Thor. Thankfully, I think I may actually be starting to get the hang of this new costume:)

Also, I've now got a Deviant Art Page! You will likely see most of the same sketches there that you will here, but I also plan to post a bit more of my process stuff like thumbnails, inked pages and whatnot on DA. Stop by and say hi if you're over there!

LARFLEEZE

With today's announcement of the Blackest Night follow-up Brightest Day I just had to take a stab at sketching Larfleeze here.
Looks like 2010 is going to be another great year for comics readers :D

On an unrelated note, I really love drawing rocks! Oh, and trees!! Maybe if this whole comic book thing doesn't work out I can get a gig just drawing rock formations and foliage;P

MAGNETO

Sorry the sketch is so late today - I had some comics that needed drawing! Have a great weekend folks!

Swamp Thing Video

This video has not been altered in any way - I really do draw this fast!* ;) Please let me know in the comments below if you'd like to see more of this sort of thing. They will hopefully be a little better quality.

*not really - this took 30 minutes to draw.

SWAMP THING

Yeeeaaah. I just wanted an excuse to draw more trees and junk. Since Swamp Thing is made out of trees and junk I figured a sketch of him would probably scratch that itch :)

CAPTAIN MARVEL

Since all the cool kids have been drawing Captain Marvel lately I figured I'd take a stab at the Big Red Cheese myself.
The cool kids being Mike Norton, Tom Fowler and Doc Shaner.
Mike is actually the artist on the upcoming Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam series for DC, written by the team of Art Baltazar and Franco. I couldn't be more excited to start get my hands on this book. Looks like it'll be a ton of fun.

Also, the final issue of The Mighty is on stands today!!

And don't forget to grab yourself a copy of Siege: Embedded #1 while you are out at the comic shop. It's on shelves today as well!! Both by yours truly :D

HERCULES

This was done early yesterday morning before my first cup of coffee.

I have no idea what is going on here, other than the fact that Hercules is about to toss a boulder at this unsuspecting cyclops... who just happens to be on a cellphone.

Draw your own conclusions, I guess.

And in a bit of blush-worthy news: Chris Arrant and the folks over at Newsarama have named me one of their 10 Creators To Watch in 2010! Thanks, guys!

FANTASY SHOP SIGNING

MAN-BAT

Two-Face has always been my favorite Bat-villain but I was always the most creeped out by Man-Bat. Well... Man-Bat and Doctor Phosphorus may be tied actually. A guy with giant wings and big bat head versus a guy with flaming see through skin were both nightmare fuel for little Chris Samnee. Still love 'em both though :)
Okay, I'm gonna go watch the Batman The Animated Series episode On Leather Wings now and try not to hide under the covers too much.
Stay warm out there, kids.

What a wonder! WONDER WOMAN!!

Here's wishing you all a WONDER-ful New Year.

And if you have any leftover X-mas money to spend, I've added a bunch of new sketches, including this one, to my Etsy Store.
