WW Chicago- Matter Eater Lad
Okay, so I put my all into every sketch I did out in Chicago but this one is my absolute favorite! I think it was the only color piece I did all weekend but I'm not so sure it would've worked without it. And I got to draw a guy eatin' a boot! I mean come on, a friggin boot! How awesome is that?!
Have a great weekend, folks!

Daredevil
I've still got a few con sketches from Chicago to post but I figured I'd break things up a bit, and maybe add a bit of color to the ol' blog here, with this odd Daredevil piece.
It was really just an experiment to see how loose I could get with my inks and still make them read-able. Not to mention give me a little break from sequential work for an hour or so:) It seemed fairly successful in just the B&W line art but almost as soon as it was finished I began to wonder how in the world anyone could color something this loose and have it make any sense at all... so I went ahead and added a bit of marker to try to solidify things a bit. I'm actually pretty happy with how this one turned out all things considered

WW Chicago- Crocker and (another) Wolverine
Hmmm. Dry brush or not to dry brush, that is the question.
I've been fighting my own style a bit lately, trying to settle on when I can get away with a sketchier look and when I need to reign it in or, as seen in most of my con sketches of late, just use one primary light source and blow out every outline so as just to leave the shadows that define the form. I'm sure I'll hit on something that works pretty soon it's just...maybe I'm thinking too hard about this, eh?

WW Chicago- (modern) Green Lantern
Before anything else I just want to say thanks to everyone who came by the table for a sketch, to pick up some comics, or just to say that they liked my work on Capote or Q&C or what have you. You don't know how much it means to me folks. You're all tops in my book!
So without further ado here's the first of my sketches from Wizard World Chicago that I'll be posting for a while here.
If anyone out there has a scan of a sketch from the show please drop me line I'd love to post it here.

Goodbye, Mr. Wieringo
I'm sure everyone has heard by now that on Sunday we lost another comics great, Mike Wieringo.
I never actually met Mr. Wieringo, but I've been reading his stuff for years. After his run on the Flash I bought a short box just for his work and wrote really big on the lid with a fat Sharpie marker "Ringo". I've read and re-read his work a lot over the years, and it's been a constant source of inspiration. I had the chance to meet him this year at Heroes Con in North Carolina but I was honestly too star-struck and nervous to just walk up a start a conversation.
His work in my collection has long since outgrown that little box but I'll spend the rest of my life looking at his library of work with a smile on my face.
So long, sir. Wish I could've known you.
Condolences to his friends and family, and his cat Charlie.
See you in the funnybooks.

Wizard World Chicago...and some more sketches
Here are a few more sketches from my Checkmate sketchbook. This time a few robot designs that ended up not actually making the cut for the issue but I had a lot of fun with 'em.
Oh, and if you folks are heading out to Wizard World Chicago this weekend I've got a table in artist's alley where I'll have plenty of my comics work on hand and I'll be doing B&W 9x12 commissions all weekend long for $40 each so be sure to swing by booth #4306 and say Hi!
