MO-KAN

Hey everybody, I'll be at the MO-KAN Comics Conspiracy show this weekend selling some of my funnybooks, doing sketches (B&W 9x12 is $40 at the show, by the way) and chattin' about nerd stuff with as many folks as I can in two days.

So come on out if you happen to be in the area and meet some great comic creators, pick up some fun toys or dig through the quarter bins (if I'm not at my table you'll probably find me hunkered over those by the way) or meet the guy who played Flounder in Animal House if that's more your thing.

Helper

No art today, hard at work on the funnybooks Here's a picture of me (in all my deadline bearded scruffiness) and my art assistant Scout to prove it.

And now for something completely different...

For anybody reading Four Horsemen here's one of the baddies from that... creepy lookin' fella I just had to take a crack at.
It took me um... well, I wasn't really keeping time but I had on the Teen Titans cartoon, and it took a few minutes less than an episode. How's that for a way to measure time?:)

Cut Faces

Here are a few faces that didn't quite make the cut. I'm really trying to give each character their own look, build and style to make it as easy as possible for the reader to tell one from the next. We'll see how it goes. For some reason things always end up looking different on boards than I have in my mind.

Hm?

'Nother design...
Done with Prismacolor markers and a bit of white colored pencil. Not that you asked or anything, just sayin'.

TGIF!!

On top you'll find an old Sasha drawing I started before work on Checkmate 17 (and never managed to finish). Below that is a quick redesign of the Rocket Red armor. As the sketch says, it was "just for fun" since I wanted to see what a slicker version of the armor (By way of Bubblegum Crisis, maybe?) would look on paper after re-reading a bunch of my old Justice League comics recently.
Have a great weekend, everybody!

Face time

Just a few sketches trying to nail down a look for a certain character... and in several different styles even.

another outfit

I think the pattern on the wool jacket could look really cool in print... or be really busy and hard to look at. Hmm.

Checkmate...and happy little me:)

Well, if I'm gonna keep posting about this book I'd better put the solicit text up, right? So here it is, along with a super-sweet cover by Kalman Andrasofszky!

CHECKMATE #21
Written by Greg Rucka & Eric Trautmann
Art by Chris Samnee
Cover by Kalman Andrasofszky

Alright, so I have absolutely nothing to do with these figures...except that I dreamed of owning them when I was like 7 years old!! Ah, if I could only go back in time and give these to little me to play with, instead of pretending my G.I. Joes were Titans members.

NEW TEEN TITANS: SERIES 2 ACTION FIGURES
Based on the art of George Perez, One of the most popular Teen Titans storylines of all time appears in 3-D, with female assassin Terra infiltrating the Teen Titans as a spy for Deathstroke (seen here without his mask), thus threatening the lives of Robin, Jericho, and the rest of the team! Each figure features multiple points of articulation and a base.Advance-solicited; On sale May 21, 2008 Action Figures • PI

A few more Checkmate sketches

Here are a few more pages out of the ol' sketchbook. I just wanted to say a big thanks to everybody who went out and picked up #17, and for all the kind words in emails and in the comments here. I really appreciate all the support you guys. I'll try to do you proud in my next couple of issues:)

Checkmate!

So I'm on for a couple more issues of Checkmate(#21 & 22) written by Greg Rucka and Eric Trautmann! Be on the lookout in the next issue of Previews, alright?
I'm into my third sketchbook of designs, so I've plenty of stuff to post, but I figured I'd start with one that's got a bit of color, and my lame sense of humor:)
Have a great weekend folks. More goodies next week!

Little Thumbs an' Big Thumbs!

Sorry if thumbnails aren't your bag, but I already had these scanned in (along with a ton of other stuff) for the backmatter of the Q&C trade, so I figured I'd go ahead and post a few here.
While flipping through my sketchbooks I realized that only recently have I settled into a way of drawing thumbnail sketches. These old ones varied from veeery tiny with little-to-no detail to almost trading card size with blacks spotted. So, here are the two extremes for ya. I'll post somethin' cool soon, I promise... Well, I'll try.

Just a few outfits

Here are a few costume design sketches from one of my next books... no hints:)
Doing these little doodles in my sketchbooks is probably my second favorite thing to do in comics, second only to actually working on the sequentials.

Okay, now HERE's my last scan from Chicago. For real this time...I think...unless somebody still has a scan out there, then all bets are off.
Thanks again, Chad.

Q&C vol. 8 cover

Here are Lee Loughridge's colors for the Queen & Country vol. 8 trade collecting #29-32. I think he ended up going back and tweaking a few things but I just wanted to give you Q&C fans out there somethin' to look at:) I was trying to post the mock-up cover with the logo and everything but I'm havin' another bout of computer stupidity:( I'll get it up here when I've got a bit more time.
