First post sans art

I know I said I'd post on Monday, but I've spent every waking moment for the last week finishing up the last issue of Queen & Country. That's #32 in case it's been so long between issues you forgot which one we're on;)
Looks like it'll be in stores 8/1/07. If you just can't wait that long though, I believe Oni Press will have some copies on hand at the San Diego Comic-Con.

I'll try to get some ART up here soon-ish. Okay, now it's time for some sleep. Take care, folks.

Nightwing- inks #2

Here's the second version of that Nightwing piece from a couple of days ago. I call this one "the feathery one". While I don't think this one is as successful as the one from yesterday it does manage to have a different feel/style about it.
I'll have more goodies for ya on Monday. Have a nice weekend, folks!

Nightwing -inks #1

Here' the closest to "slick" inks I could manage. Still a bit of dry brush in a few places (I just couldn't help myself) but overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. If I had the time I would have added some sort of really elaborate background with a big ol' space ship lifting off out of some giant snake-headed secret base in the side of a mountain or sometin'... It served it's purpose as is though, and I probably would've kicked myself for making all that extra work anyway:)

Nightwing-pencils

Here's a shot of Nightwing disarming a Kobra agent.
I actually inked this piece twice (which I'll post over the next couple of days) to show that I could alter my inking style to suit DC's needs.
Also, after posting the old-school Nightwing costume a while back, I had been wanting to try my hand at his current outfit and I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone.

Look Ma, I'm in comics!!

Alright folks, here's the solicit text for my first ever DCU book. Be sure everyone you knows buys like five copies, okay?
CHECKMATE #17
Written by Greg Rucka & Eric Trautmann
Art by Chris Samnee
Cover by Kalman Andrasofsky
If Checkmate’s powerful enough to have a takedown plan for every hero and villain on Earth, why isn’t its Alpine headquarters under assault 24-7? Well, it is — which is why it needs a Master Jailer to keep it running, in this thrilling stand-alone story co-written by Eric Trautmann (Perfect Dark).
On sale August 15 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US

Fear Agent...INKED!

Alright, here's the inks for that Fear Agent back cover I posted on Friday.
For this I really cut loose and went straight to inks without tightening up any of the pencilled art. I had a lot of fun with the textures and crazy landscape, and since I wasn't laboring with over-rendered pencils I ended up with a lot of happy accidents.

Fear Agent

Here are the really rough pencils for what'll be the back cover of Rick Remender and Tony Moore's Fear Agent #2, coming from Dark Horse in July .
I'll post the finished inks first thing Monday morning, so be sure to check back.

Looker

Since I was pretty happy with how my "real world" Supergirl re-design turned out I decided to take a crack at the Looker from Batman and the Outsiders. Now Emily Briggs has had quite a few costumes over the years ,if you check out this link to her Wikipedia entry you can see just a few of 'em (she's even been a Vampire?!), but I've always been fond of the original look and figured I'd try to bring it back to where it started (with a bit of a twist).
I just wish that when I had started sketching this out ,before I realized it was going to be a finished drawing, that I had left enough room at the bottom of the page for her feet.

Geo-Force

Here's what I guess is my last post from Planet Comicon of Geo-Force! I had a blast working on this, even though I grew up reading Outsiders, I'd never actually drawn our ol' GF (who's civilian identity is Prince Brion Markov).

Thanks picking a great character to sketch, Jim. And thanks again to Doctor Fantastic for the scan.

Tho-...um.. ULTIMATE Thor!

Here's yet another sketch from Planet Comicon. This time it's Ultimate Thor. Thanks again to Luke and his lovely wife picking this up, and wandering around the show with me to track down the reference.

Back from Planet Comicon

Hey everybody, we made it back from Planet Comicon safe and sound so it's back to the drawing board!

We (that's me, my beautiful and amazingly supportive wife Laura, and art maestro of the Damned mister Brian Hurtt) had a great time out there, and with the exception of a crazy bit of weather on the ride home (thanks for being the road warrior, Lu) everything went off without a hitch.

Just wanted to say thanks to everybody who made it out to the show and stopped by me and Brian's table for sketches, comics, or a bit of nerdery:). You folks are tops!!

If anyone has scans of sketches I did for them over the weekend please send me a scan or, if you've got one, a link to your comicartfans gallery and I'll post 'em up here on the blog.

Today's sketch was done for "Doctor Fantastic". Thanks, Doc!!
