'nother Q&C commission

Here's a few sketches working out one of this week's commissions. The one at top is what ended up being the basis for the final piece. I'll post the rest of the steps throughout the week.

A Commish and a Dish

Here's a few Pitt brush pen sketches to close out the week. The grey tone gives 'em a bit of class they were lacking in just plain ol' black & white, I think. That's Jim Gordon on top, by the way.

Big Grey Hulk

Just looking at how loose and open lined this is I think I drew it after reading an issue of Frank Espinosa's Rocketo. The first time I saw Espinosa's work I was absolutely dumbstruck and I felt I must be in the wrong business. I immediately thought "this is the future of comics". If you haven't read Rocketo, go pick it up. Seriously, it's just beautiful. And if you have, YOU know what I'm talkin' about!

Indie or Mainstream?

Hey folks here's a few more pages of sketchbookyness. The top one is Jim Rugg and Brian Maruca's Street Angel and if I have to tell you who the bottom drawing is of you're reading the wrong blog. I think I did this drawing of our pal Kal-El after reading Lex Luthor: Man of Steel. See ya tomorrow, everybody.

Sure it's shameless but here's a couple of trades coming out that I've got a little bit of work in. I get a kick out of having my stuff in something I can sit on a book shelf so this is pretty cool news for me that DC's getting these trades out so fast.

What Evil Lurks...

Here's a really stylized Shadow doodle from a couple years back. The actual art for this looks absolutely awful. Since I was finishing off like 3 markers on this sketch it's all faded and is in at least three different colors. The Prismacolor and the Pitt pen blacks still look like I just put them on yesterday, but the felt tip stuff looks all faded and pitiful. Never trust a Sharpie on your comic art! Sure it might get it done, but don't expect it to look anything like you want in a couple years. Just a word of warning:)
See ya tomorrow, everybody!

HB's 10th B-Day

Here's the pencils to a Hellboy pinup I did for the 10th anniversary of Mike Mignola's baby for the San Diego Comic-Con souvenir book a couple of years ago. I sent in this one and a really cartoony pinup...the cartoony one eventually saw print. I still think this one turned out okay though.

A Cool Exec with a Heart of Steel

Here's a drawing of ol' Shell Head inspired by an issue in which Tony's rocket boots failed and he had to make a landing just with his repulsars. I think it might have been drawn by Tuska but sinceI don't have that comic anymore can somebody tell me what issue this might have occured in and who handled art chores. It's really starting to bug me now that I think about it. Thanks folks!

I think I've got a colored version of this packed away somewhere. If I happen across it I'll post it here. See ya tomorrow, kids!

Sketchbook Doodles

Alright, so I finally hunkered down and went through some more of my old sketchbooks and spent some time scanning in a bunch of pages this morning so I can get back into this daily(well, maybe every other day or so, we'll see how it goes) blog thing the kids like so much.
Keep checkin' back, there's a bunch of cool stuff I'll have posted in the next few weeks. See ya next time!
