Wolverine Week: Sabretooth

I don't remember what issue number, or even if it was an X-men or Wolverine comic, but the first story I read featuring Sabretooth had him tusslin' with Wolverine in the snow.

Wolverine Week: The Blob

I've become so accustomed to typing "blog" that I actually managed to name the file, the title for this post and the label for the post B-L-O-G before all was said and done.

Wolverine Week: Fastball Special

Since X-Men Origins: Wolverine is hitting theatres this Friday I've decided, at Laura's suggestion, to devote this entire week to sketches of some of the mutants from the film.
I'm pretty sure Colossus isn't in the movie, but I couldn't resist taking a stab at the ol' "Fastball Special".

ACME Free Comic Book Day: print process

Here are the thumbnail sketches for the print that I mentioned last week for FCBD at Acme Comics.

Next, we have the really rough pencils.

the finished inks...

which would normally be where I'd call it quits, but it was decided early on to add a splash of color on this piece so...
Here are my first few stabs at colors, done with prismacolor markers, as I tried to figure out which bits to color red without it all bleeding together.

For the finished piece be sure to come on out to Acme Comics and pick yourself up a copy of the print!
Have a great weekend, folks.

Viking pinup

This pinup will be in Ivan Brandon and Nic Klein's Viking #2.
Be sure to pick up a copy.
Their first issue hit stands yesterday, and is absolutely wonderful. I can't recommend it enough. It looks like a million bucks, but will only cost you $2.99.

The Mighty #6 Solicitation... and Space Suit Cole Sketch

THE MIGHTY #6
Written by Peter J. Tomasi & Keith Champagne
Art by Chris Samnee
Cover by Dave Johnson
Being the commander of Section Omega has its perks — like a free trip to Earth orbit, courtesy of Alpha One! It may be a beautiful view, but Gabriel Cole had better hope it doesn’t turn into a one-way trip! After all, he’s beginning to understand just why he’s had so many predecessors in his job – and why so few have lived to tell about it!
On sale July 1 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US

Bat-Monday: Nightwing

The above sketch is another one I did for one of the fine gents who work at my LCS, Fantasy Shop. This sketch just happens to be for Scott, one of the hosts of the Comic Dorks Cast.
They just recently did a series of short interviews during Planet Comicon with the likes of Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, Kevin Mellon, Dennis Hopeless and Alexander Grecian as well as myself. You can give that episode a listen here.

Gal Friday: Power Girl

Well... I did draw a few more sketches at Hurley Con, including a Dorothy from Lost Girls and a Brother Voodoo, but since I didn't get scans of them how 'bout we break things up a bit with another "Gal Friday"?
This Power Girl sketch was done for one of the fine gents who work at my local comic book store, Fantasy Shop.

Speaking of gals, please be sure to drop by Lunchnotes. It's my lovely wife Laura's blog of the notes I draw and stick in her lunch bag each day.

Hurley Con: Conan

Thanks again, Debbie.

Hurley Con: Deathstroke the Terminator

This was my first crack at drawing Deathstoke. I've always thought he was a great character, and I think I have all but an issue or two of the Deathstroke: the Terminator comic, but I never actually tried to commit him to paper.
Anyway, I wanted to make sure I could draw his crazy mask before I did the requested full-on sketch.
Thanks again, Brian.

Oh, keep an eye out for pranksters today, okay? Nothing good can come of April Fool's Day.
