Commissions!!

******ETA: Commissions sold out in about 10 minutes - thank you to everyone who purchased one. I am NO LONGER taking commissions. Please don't contact me regarding commissions. If I open up for commissions again, I will announce it on this blog and on my twitter account. Thank you!!*****

Since I will not be doing any shows or appearances for 2016, I've decided to open up for a limited number of con style sketch commissions. I typically only open for commissions every 2-3 years and this will likely be it for quite some time. Commission spots will be available to purchase through my store, starting this Thursday, October 1st at 9 am Central time. Please read all of the following information before purchasing a commission.

  • All sketches will be inked (black & white) on 9x12 bristol board
  • Choice of up to two characters and some background.
  • All sketches will be mailed in plastic, between two pieces of cardboard and in a stay flat mailer, through USPS with insurance and delivery confirmation. Shipping cost will be $15.
  • Shipping will be within the US ONLY!
  • No requests for lewd/graphic/overly violent content will be honored.
  • Established characters only (in other words, I won't draw the character you made up in seventh grade)
  • Finished art is intended for your enjoyment only, not publication.
  • Please indicate what character(s) you would like, and if necessary, which version of their costume when you pay through Paypal.
  • I will follow up with you through email within a week to confirm your request.
  • I am aiming to have all sketches shipped out in 8-12 weeks. If this time frame isn't acceptable to you, please don't purchase a commission. If I anticipate your commission will take longer than 12 weeks, I'll contact you by email.
  • When all commission slots are filled, the store listing will display "sold out".
Purchasing a commission spot through my store indicates that you have read the above information and agree with it.

Thanks so much!

Whatever Wednesday:Cap & Bucky Commission

Here are the thumbnail sketches for another one of the commissions I took on back in December.

These pencils ended up being a little tighter than I had planned, since I wanted to make sure everything was true to the period, but still loose enough to have a fun time inking.
Speaking of inks, here's the finished piece.

Thanks again, Chris!

Whatever Wednesday: Sleeper Commission pencils & inks

I posted the thumbnail sketches for this piece a while back, but here are the pencils and finished inks for you folks that've been following along at home.
Thanks again, Simon.

Here are the finished inks for the Devil Slayer commission I've been posting the progress of lately.

Super Tuesday: Devil Slayer Commission-pencils

Yeah, I don't know why Belathauzar's face is in stone either... other than it looks cool. Maybe he had a few of his more artistic demon lackies carve it in the rock with their little claws or something.

Whatever Wednesday: Devil Slayer Commission-sketches

You didn't think we were done with commissions already, did you?
Here are a few more sketchbook pages of layouts for a character I've definitely had a bit more experience drawing.

Also, if you have any last minute suggestions for the Name a Theme Week Contest be sure to get them in ASAP. We stop taking entries tonight at midnight, so tell your friends! Lurkers this is your chance to de-lurk and maybe win something in the process!!
We'll announce the winner(s) right here next week!!

Super Tuesday: Hulk vs Thor Commission- Inks

The lightning took on a life of its own here. Kinda neat though. This was actually the first time I drew Thor in this costume. It will be my last I'm afraid. There are a number costumes out there that are just far too complicated to ever suffer through more than once. This one and the current Iron-Man armor are but a few.

Bat-Monday: Commission- Final Inks

Pretty happy with how this one turned out. I just realized I drew it on the back of a Marvel board though. For some reason that just doesn't feel right.
Don't forget to get your votes in for the Name a Theme Week Contest. The cut off is Wednesday night.

Super Tuesday: Hulk vs Thor Commission- pencils

Here are the pencils for the commission I posted sketches for last Thursday. I was given the option of going with #1 or #4. Since the composition seemed a bit more dramatic in #4 that's the one I gravitated toward.
Thor's arm (the one with the hammer) was a bit awkward in the initial sketch though, so I tried to punch it up a bit in the pencils.

Bat-Monday: Commission Ligne Claire Inks

I thought this looked kind of neat after I erased all the pencil lines so I figured I'd post it here. This one is for any of you out there who might like to see a bit of the process before I put brush to paper.

Gal Friday: Cap Commission-inks

And here are the finished inks to the Captain America commission I've been posting about lately.
Yeah, I know. Two weeks in a row using Sharon Carter as our "gal" is a little cheap. I'll try to have something fresh for you next week though, okay?

Whatever Wednesday: Sleeper Commission- Sketches

Hope you all aren't sick of seeing all this commission stuff yet. I've still got quite a few scans to post...
Anyway, for this one I was asked to pick from six or so characters (with a bit of emphasis on Holden Carver and Miss Misery) from Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips's Sleeper.
You're welcome to guess what we went with again, but it's actually another combo of two of these.

Super Tuesday: Cap Commission-pencils

These are the final pencils for the Captain America commission. I'll try to have the inks up here on Friday.

Bat-Monday: Commission Pencils

Here are the pencils to the commission I mentioned last Monday.
Leave it to the Joker to try to coax a child away from Batman with a nutcracker fashioned in his own visage:)

Gal Friday: Cap Commission-final sketch

Can we count Sharon Carter as this week's gal? Come on, cut me a break here!
Anyway, here is the final sketch for the commission mentioned on Tuesday, combining elements from the first batch of thumbnails.
Have a great weekend, folks. Watch out for those last minute shoppers!

'Nother commission for you all. Posted in crazy color and grey for easy viewing.

Super Tuesday: Cap Commission-sketches

Above are a few options given to narrow down what shape this Captain America/ Sharon Carter piece would take.
Only the characters were requested on this one, so I just tried to come up with something cool for them to be doing.  Jumping out of helicopters and deflecting bullets with a shield etc. You know, everyday stuff... for Cap anyway.

Bat-Monday: Commission Sketches

One of the commissions that I've taken on recently is of Batman protecting a small child from the Joker.  Oh, and the Joker is trying to tempt the child with a toy while hiding a gun behind his back.  Sounds easy enough, right?
Above are the four options I gave to choose from.
Can you guess which one we went with?  A big honkin' no-prize to the first person who guesses correctly.
