Western Week: Tallulah Black

Since I've been catching up on the brilliant Palmiotti and Grey run of Jonah Hex lately I just had to take a stab (no pun intended) at Tallulah from Jonah Hex Volume 3: Origins.

Oh, and here's a little extra Hex... to make up for the fact that I had to sock a few of you in the face yesterday;)

Thanks again to Fred for the Western week suggestion. It was a lot o' fun.
Be sure to check back again on Monday for our third winner of the Name a Theme Week Contest!

Western Week: Jonah Hex

I'm still reeling from how great the new Jonah Hex series is, and kicking myself for waiting so long to pick it up.
Seriously, if you're not reading this book I implore you to go out and buy a few trades. We have to help rectify this sad state you've been living in. If you don't, I will punch you in the face. No foolin'.

Western Week: Vigilante

This is one of those rare instances where I was happy enough with the pencils for this sketch that I managed to get a scan of them before I put ink on the page. Truth be told I was more than a little worried I was going to botch it in the inks, but I think I managed to get pretty close to what I had in mind.

There have been quite a few iterations of Vigilante through the years, from full-on cowboy to multiple personality crime-fighter, but my favorite is the one on the motorcycle:)

Kick Ass Females: Ultimate Storm

Hm. This has really turned out to be a week of firsts. The first time we've had a crazy contest like this, my first time drawing X-23, my first time drawing the character you'll see posted here tomorrow and my first crack at the Ultimate version of Storm you see above.
I've drawn Storm before of course, usually the mohawk version, but never tried my hand at this latest incarnation. I may have gotten a little carried away with the electricity effect but in the end I think it works as a different type of light source than you normally see in these blog sketches

Kick Ass Females: Cheetara

Cheetara may have made her debut in the Thundercats cartoon but I figured she still counts as one of the Kick Ass Females in comics since she's been in a number of different comic series over the years.

President Obama

Happy Inauguration Day, Mister President.

Laura is making cupcakes with your logo on them to celebrate:)

Kick Ass Females: X-23

This is my first attempt at drawing X-23... and I'm actually pretty happy with my Freshman effort for once:)
Anyway, X-23 here is the female clone of Wolverine who first appeared in the X-Men: Evolution cartoon. I'm sure I'll get it wrong if I try to explain any more so, if you'd like find out more about her, just click here to read the Wikipedia entry.

Kick Ass Females: Batgirl

The first winner of the Name A Theme Week contest is Erica, with Kick Ass Females week.
Since there were so many great suggestions we decided to go with FOUR different themes instead of trying to pick just one. I'll announce the new week's theme, and winner, each Monday for the next three weeks.

The fun doesn't stop there though! If you entered a suggestion just email me your name, screen name and mailing address (my email address is on my profile page) and you get a consolation prize as a thanks for joining in on the fun!

Technicolor Thursday: DD sketches

These are from back when I was preparing for the Daredevil: Blood of the Tarantula issue I did with Ande. You can tell I was still trying to find my version of ol' Horn-Head here but these were getting pretty close.

Whatever Wednesday: Saturn Girl!

I was SO close, right?

The above photo was taken from this article on Smallville season 8 over on CBR.

Here's the link to my original post.

Super Tuesday: Devil Slayer Commission-pencils

Yeah, I don't know why Belathauzar's face is in stone either... other than it looks cool. Maybe he had a few of his more artistic demon lackies carve it in the rock with their little claws or something.

Bat-Monday: Off Model Rogues Gallery

I don't think a single one of these little doodles is drawn correctly but they all feel right in their own way.

Gal Friday: Warm-Up Sketch

I was cold in my office last night, so I was hoping that drawing something warm looking would help ward off the chill.
Didn't work out so well I'm sad to say... but 8 cups of coffee out of my new French press sure did the trick:)

Whatever Wednesday: Devil Slayer Commission-sketches

You didn't think we were done with commissions already, did you?
Here are a few more sketchbook pages of layouts for a character I've definitely had a bit more experience drawing.

Also, if you have any last minute suggestions for the Name a Theme Week Contest be sure to get them in ASAP. We stop taking entries tonight at midnight, so tell your friends! Lurkers this is your chance to de-lurk and maybe win something in the process!!
We'll announce the winner(s) right here next week!!

Super Tuesday: Hulk vs Thor Commission- Inks

The lightning took on a life of its own here. Kinda neat though. This was actually the first time I drew Thor in this costume. It will be my last I'm afraid. There are a number costumes out there that are just far too complicated to ever suffer through more than once. This one and the current Iron-Man armor are but a few.

Bat-Monday: Commission- Final Inks

Pretty happy with how this one turned out. I just realized I drew it on the back of a Marvel board though. For some reason that just doesn't feel right.
Don't forget to get your votes in for the Name a Theme Week Contest. The cut off is Wednesday night.
